Story

I've always liked the idea of not fighting the current. Life has a way of unfolding in directions we couldn't have planned, and if we hold on too tightly to how we think things are supposed to go, we can miss what comes next. Sometimes there's a reason things don't work out the way we expected, even if we can't see it at the time.

I photographed this peacock in a moment that felt completely different from the way we usually see them. Peacocks are often photographed with their tails spread wide in a spectacular fan, but his feathers were falling in a softer, almost dance-like way. They looked a little like a dress.

That moment felt like a visual version of the same idea: it doesn't have to be a full display. It doesn't have to be perfect. Sometimes letting go of the picture you had in your head makes room for something unexpected—and maybe even better.
